Just reading posts about D23 Expo would never have prepared me for my first time at the Expo. I’m not an emotional person, but I teared up on more than one occasion. I don’t get excited easily, but my voice was nearly gone after the second day. I don’t commonly wear dresses, but I made an exception for my Alice in Wonderland dress. I’m glad I did; I received a ton of compliments on it.
There’s something about watching people you admire become official Disney Legends, getting news from your favorite studios before anyone else, learning about exciting changes being made at Disney parks and resorts before the news hits even Twitter, and taking part in one-of-a-kind experiences you won’t find anywhere else. And all of this happened at D23 Expo.
Attending D23 Expo As Press
First, let me be upfront and tell you that I did attend the event as a member of the press. Because we were with an employee of the studio there were benefits. We were able to pass many of the lines, though we weren’t allowed into the panels before anyone else. We were pushing through, just like everyone else. We did not have to stand in line to gain access to certain panels, but we were told which panels we were to cover. This meant we couldn’t go into any panel we wished.
The freebies that you were given as you left a few of the panel – press were denied those freebies. We also received official press releases from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Lucasfilms, but they weren’t sent any earlier than the news would break.
Honestly, besides being able to skip a few lines and not having to sleep outside, I imagine our access during D23 Expo wasn’t much different than anybody else’s!
The Disney Legends Ceremony
The Disney Legends Ceremony at D23 Expo 2017 seemed like the most popular, by far, with dozens (maybe close to hundreds?) waiting/sleeping outside to gain access. This was, perhaps, the one very amazing benefit we had granted to us as a member of the press attending the event with a Disney studio employee.
Being in the same room with Oprah (no last name needed), along with my living heroes Stan Lee and Mark Hamill was amazing! Watching a tear-filled tribute to Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher was almost too much.
This panel was my favorite and filled with emotion, heart, and inspiration.
The Live Action Movie Announcements Panel
The announcements that came faster than we could tweet and the movies that will be breaking box office records for the next two years. That’s the easiest way I could sum up D23 Expo Live Action Panel.
Add to that the moment that about 1/3 of the cast of Marvel’s Infinity War took the stage (took ALL of the stage!) and it was pure pandemonium. Everyone went nuts!
Trailers, sneak peeks, and behind-the-scenes looks at the Marvel, Disney, and Lucasfilm movies that will hit theaters over the next two years – D23 Expo is the only place to get all of that, even before ComicCon!
Don’t Forget The Disney Parks, Resorts, & Cruises News
Thanks to D23 Expo, I visited Disneyland for my very first time. Sadly, I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been to Walt Disney World, and one of those times was spent in a hotel bed because of pneumonia. However, this time at the parks, I more than made up for it!
Okay, that’s an embarrassing photo, but that’s my Disney face, I guess! It was worth it for all of the amazing new parks and resorts news that hit us in the Twitters during D23 Expo! New rides, new boats, and new characters all coming to every single Disney-owned everything.
Yes, that’s a very general summary, but it’s all too much! Just click the link above, it will tell you everything, I promise!
Being Surround By My People!
The costumes and cosplay at D23 Expo range from a shirt and tutu to a full on, probably worked on this for a year, head-to-toe, costume. I loved every moment of it!
The video I made featured many of the people that we saw during the Expo (are YOU in the vide?)
