If you’re like me, you might never have heard about Huawei; reviewing the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 is the first I’ve heard of, and used products from, the brand. The 4 major cell phone carriers don’t carry their products in-store (and I didn’t see them online) but after using the Ascend Mate 2, I’m slightly surprised by this fact.
So why is this smartphone such a hidden gem? We take a look at the Huawei Ascend Mate 2.
This is a sponsored post. We were provided with a Huawei Ascend Mate 2 and a month of Net10 phone service to facilitate our review. All opinions are my own.
So, why is the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 not in your mobile carrier’s portfolio of available products? It is sometimes difficult for smaller companies to compete with the more familiar brands that mobile carriers support, but as the Ascend Mate 2 will demonstrate, it doesn’t mean that they’re an inferior product.
The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 is a smartphone that is often referred to as a Phablet; a phone and tablet in one. Its large 6.1″ HD screen is the largest on the market, though some see the 720p as a downfall compared to competitors’ higher resolutions. However, when you’re checking emails, keeping up on social media or making phone calls, there’s little chance of this being a deal breaker.
I expect a 1080p or higher resolution on my television, not on my smartphone. I do expect a long-lasting battery and a lightweight feel, however.
The home screen had me a little tickled. What a fantastic idea to not only be able to unlock your phone with a drag, but to be able to quickly access your most used applications the same way. It’s definitely a time saver and a huge bonus in favor of this smartphone.
The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 features 16GB of internal memory which definitely keeps it competitive with the major brands. It has a shockingly long battery life which ends up being the major selling point for this smartphone; Huawei claims 2.5 days (60 hours) on a single charge and guess what we discovered; they’re nearly right on the money. I had to charge my current phone again before this one ran out of battery!
I love the easy to use and customizable interface that, again, keeps your most often used apps right at your fingertips. You also have a voice activated search bar on the home screen, access to Google Now and you can see all of your notifications with a quick swipe from the top.
For the money, the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 is a great buy, especially for the features and the ing battery life alone.
