Singer and songwriter Kelly Clarkson has come a long way since her inaugural season win on American Idol. She’s previously added ‘actress’ to her growing list of talent and now, she can add ‘author’ to her resumé, as well. Clarkson has authored a children’s picture book called River Rose and the Magical Lullaby and it features an original lullaby written by Clarkson. There’s even an accompanying doll that plays her performance of the song.
Just in time for my daughter’s 6th birthday, the amazing Kelly Clarkson sent to my daughter a copy of her new book, along with the River Rose doll, a handwritten note to me and – how cute is this?! – one from her daughter who is not-coincidentally named River Rose.
Kelly Clarkson’s First Children’s Picture Book
The story book is easy for young readers to hold and to read but like any book, is much more fun when parents read it with their kids. In this new children’s book, little River Rose is so excited about her trip to the zoo the next day that she cannot sleep until her mother sings the ‘magical’ lullaby.
In the middle of the night, she is woken by balloons outside her window. She grabs onto them and along with Joplin, her little black puppy. Hanging onto the balloons, River Rose sails through the night to the middle of the zoo. There, she and Joplin are greeted by the animals at the zoo.
They all begin to play, dancing and singing, until the polar bears tell her their secret which makes River Rose realize that a good night’s sleep would be the best thing before a busy day.
The story is one told in rhyme and illustrated in such a way that reminds me of the old picture book stories my grandma used to tell me before bed. My daughter loves the animals, but mostly she loves the yarn-haired doll that we received along with the story book.
By the first day, she already had Clarkson’s lullaby memorized and spent the better part of the evening cuddled with her on the sofa in our sunroom.
Thanks to the very generous Clarkson, we have an autographed story book AND singing River Rose doll to give away to one lucky As Mom Sees It reader!
