Actors that have been lucky enough to be part of the ongoing and increasingly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe seem to be eternally busy, not to mention becoming well-known.
Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff know exactly what it’s like to be where many of us wish to be – part of the MCU. Gillan, who plays Nebula in both Guardian of the Galaxy films, and Klementieff, who joined the team for the sequel as Mantis, will appear together again on-screen in 2018’s Avenger’s: Infinity War. The film is likely the most anticipated Marvel film yet and also features the largest cast of any Marvel film before it.
Like most people, we crave even the smallest details we can manage, but these ladies were either good liars and are in the dark as much as we are at this point.
“What can we say about the film?” Karen Gillan pondered. “Not very much, because they’re so secretive and also we didn’t even get a full script. I’m just shooting scenes [for which] I don’t know what the context is and where it fits into the story,” Gillan said.
“I have to harass them like, every day to get the script,” Pom Klementieff confirmed. She said the scripts are delivered to cast members on a password-protected iPad and the password constantly changes. “I can read it and then I have to give the iPad back,” she said.
Take A Ride With Mantis And The Guardians
Marvel films aren’t the only place you’ll see Klementieff as Mantis. If you’re brave enough to ride Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure, you might catch a cameo… or two. So what’s it like being part of one of the most exciting rides at the park?
“That’s really fun,” Klementieff laughed. “And you have to, ah, maybe not eat too much before because …it’s like your organs are lifted up and then come down. Yeah, it’s really crazy. And it’s really fun with the story that James Gunn wrote. And you see the collector, Benicio Del Toro I’m really happy to be a part of it.”
Different Director, Same Marvel Universe
Gillan and Klementieff will also be part of a small group of actors that get the distinct honor of working with both Marvel directors Joe and Anthony Russo as well as Guardians director James Gunn.
“It was an interesting; we had to adapt, I guess,” Gillan told us. “We’ve only ever made anything Guardians related with James Gunn – he created these characters – and it was very much a collaboration with James in terms of bringing these characters to life. Then to sort of work with completely new directors was a different sensation, but it was also cool because they have something else to add to the table; another perspective on everything.”
“I was kind of scared at the beginning because we have a great relationship with James Gunn, and he’s an amazing director and he’s really close to his actors,” Klementieff added. “We created this character together, so how is it going to be to work with someone else? Am I gonna do the right things,? But actually, when we’re on set, it went really great.”
“I feel like [the film] been received really well by the fans,” added Gillan “and I felt like, when we were making it, it definitely felt like we were making something special. Everyone was delivering and it just felt like everything about the first film that was so good was kind of amplified in the second film,” Gillan said.
Gillan is also pleased with the evolution of her character, saying that when the first film became popular, most people weren’t as keen on taking a photo with her as they are now, which makes her happy.
A Full Moon Sighting On The Set Of Guardians
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 ebbs and flows with scenes that will make you laugh and ones that will make you cry. It’s much more emotional than the first film, and the actors felt that going into production.
“Michael Rooker showed his bottom to you,” Gillan said to Klementieff, laughing.
“Oh, yes. It’s true. I forgot, but it was not during the shoot,” Klementieff said. “It was during the rehearsals. I was with James Gunn and Dave Bautista. We were rehearsing a pretty emotional scene. You remember in the movie when I touch him, I see what he went through in his life. And at some point, we saw Michael Rooker… showing his against the window.”
While you won’t see actor Michael Rooker’s bare butt in the film, definitely check out Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when it’s released on Blu-Ray August 22nd. You can download the digital version of the film today.
