If you’re a Marvel fan, then this and the next two years will likely be the most exciting years of your life, at least as far as trips to the movie theaters go!
Having a son and an ex who both love the comics helped a bit with my knowledge of all things comic book, specifically Marvel. But that was not my first introduction to the elusive Doctor Strange. He’s always been a little bit of a favorite of mine since Activision’s Marvel: Ultimate Alliance!
The Sanctum Sanctorum, his mystic powers, and that oh-so-fashion-forward high collar! Here’s what you need to know about Doctor Strange before the film hits theaters this November!
The History Of Doctor Strange
Doctor Stephen Strange is a very gifted surgeon, motivated to enter medical field because of a personal tragedy. He excels in his field and finished medical school ahead of schedule but because of this, he is quite egotistical. Then, his own tragedy leaves him unable to perform as the gifted surgeon for which he known. To make ends meet, he was reduced to performing questionable and illegal medical procedures. He pawned everything he owned to seek out the “Ancient One” hoping that his abilities could be restored.
The Ancient One spends years teaching Stephen Strange sorcery and other mystic powers. A few times, he even partnered with super-teams like the Fantastic Four, the X-Men and the Avengers. He also had a close friendship with Spider-Man so it’s possible that there could be some crossover there!
Obviously, with the film being released this November, I don’t want to go into too much detail, and historically Marvel films have deviated somewhat from the comics, so we’ll see what happens when Doctor Strange, starring Rachel McAdams, Tilda Swinton and, of course, Benedict Cumberbatch as the Doctor himself, opens in theaters on November 4, 2016.
