Technology has taken over our home! Honestly, I think this might be the case with most families. A SmartTV, several smartphones, several tablets, a few computers, even a smart thermostat. Heck, even some of our lightbulbs rely on an app and our router. It used to be that you could download an antivirus onto your computer and you were without worry. But what about the rest of the tech that now runs our households?
This month we received the new Bitdefender BOX to review in our house. All opinions are our own and were not influenced. We’ll share with you what theBitdefender BOX is and how it will help protect your technology.
That little white box with the ethereal blue glow is our new Bitdefender BOX. It connects directly to our router and protects us from all the baddies that might strike from our disappointingly slow internet, thanks to Frontier and country living. Nonetheless, no matter how slow our internet might be, we’re still open to malware and viruses.
Traditional antivirus protection requires multiple updates because of the changing landscape of technology and how it’s attacked. Since the Bitdefender BOX is connected directly to your router, it’s becomes a veritable firewall. As traffic hits your system,Bitdefender BOX is checking for anything suspicious and it redirects as needed to a safer “lane of traffic” for lack of a better description.
As it was explained to me, theBitdefender BOX provides exclusive access to a cloud where antivirus and malware protection is kept and constantly updated. This means you’re not having to install constant updates on your end. TheBitdefender BOX does it for you and protects anything connected.
Setup Was A Challenge
Ideally, the system should be a plug-and-play setup. This was not the case. Plug in was easy, downloading the app was easy; it was getting the two to communicate that was challenging. My issue was NOT with theBitdefender BOX, it was disabling a setting on my router/modem, one that provided to me by the internet provider. I had to call them, get the IP address, and search the settings. It was a pain.
I’ve heard of other issues during setup, but once I made the changes, it was an easy set up from there. As a modem, it’s not as strong as some on the market, but it also doesn’t protect like those, either, and it worked just fine for our household.
As a frequent traveler, I love that I can easily set up a Private Line (VPN) for the devices I use when I’m away from home. Even when I’m outside of theBitdefender BOX network, I’m still protected.
TheBitdefender BOX retails for $199 on Amazon. You’ll get one free year of protection and after that, it’s a $99 yearly subscription. For more information, you can follow theBitdefender BOX on Twitter and on Facebook.
