I recently checked the website of a leading carpet cleaning company to see how much it would cost to clean just one room in our house. According the website, the estimate (for a family room, no size stated, no deodorizing or protect option) was about $100. For one room!
There is the option of rental machines, available at your local grocery market or hardware superstore. The problem with this is that it’s cumbersome – the hauling, the emptying, cleaning, pre-cleaning because the person that rented it before you didn’t clean it before returning, not to mention the uncertainty of where it’d been before. Oh, I shudder to think!
We realized these truths about a year ago, and decided to purchase our own carpet cleaner. When we got to this point, we realized we had several options. We decided in favor of the full size option (versus the compact, for example the “Spot Bot” is a compact model) and we purchased the Bissell 25A3 ProHeat Upright Deep Cleaner.
We trusted this brand as we owned, and still own, a Bissell vacuum cleaner and was pleased with it. It was easy to set up, mostly right out of the box, and we’ve owned it for over a year now.
We have only one dog, but this machine became valuable to us when we moved into our current home, a rental, and the carpet was disgusting. I thought for sure it would need to be replaced. Our landlord would’ve gladly hired someone to clean it, but we found this house just before our old lease was up and needed to move in immediately. We stayed up the entire night – the same night we signed the lease – to clean the carpets. While they don’t look brand new, they’re are much cleaner now and the Bissell ProHeat actually brought life back into the pile itself.
One thing we like about this model was the built-in hot water heater which makes the water in the tank 25 degrees hotter. This helps to make your hot water even hotter, ensuring a cleaner carpet. It has 6 rows of DirtLifter® Powerbrushes that help remove deep down dirt. The true test of our purchase was recently, after having owned and used it for a year, my parents borrowed it to clean their carpet. They have 5 dogs. Big dogs that shed profusely. It was returned to use and it still worked perfectly with, from what I can tell, no loss of suction. My parents, after using our Bissell, purchased the upgrade of this model, the newest ProHeat 2X Pet Deep Cleaning System.
It also has an on-board tool for upholstery, which we’ve used to clean our sofa and the cloth seats of our cars!
You can find the Bissell line of Carpet Deep Cleaners here. They range in price from an affordable $129.99 to a top of the line model at $599.99. Bissell’s website provided the lowest price I could find when I searched on the web.
