Here’s the difference between being a kid and being an adult: as soon as your family arrives at the hotel, the kids get to jump on the bed and watch TV while you’re unpacking and making sure beds are assigned. I don’t care who you are; we all know you’d rather be jumping on the bed.
And, just like at home, as soon as the kids turn on the TV, it seems there’s “nothing to watch.” They tell you how bored they are and all you can think is, we’ve only been here for 10 minutes. 10… long… minutes. Let’s get out of the hotel and explore!, you think, just as it starts to rain.
We have an idea that will keep your kids happy and entertained while you travel and it takes up very little room in your suitcase.

We travel frequently, both with the kids and just as a couple, and I can’t believe it took me so long to figure out! Sometimes, when we’re given so much awesome technology, we try to figure out new ways to use it when we should just get back to the basics.
Streaming media, y’all! We use it at home, why not use it on the go? Like all technology, it’s become smaller and more portable, so taking with us things like Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV, Roku and others. Most hotels have updated televisions that usually include a USB port so you can just plug and play and the kids are (relatively) happy.
If the hotel TV is without it’s USB conveniences, or mom and dad want TV time to themselves, there’s always the new iPad or Samsung Galaxy tablets. Trust me when I tell you that even if they’re not using the tablet for their streaming device, it’s a lifesaver when you travel, especially in the car.
