I adore Halloween! Besides fall being my time of year – the colorful leaves and the fresh fall air – it’s so much fun to dress up with the kids and Trick or Treat. Since we live in a college town, many of the businesses and the university will often have Trunk or Treat events which is such a fun way to get creative decorating a small space.
Some people really go all-out. I love it because decorating a small space makes your dollar go a long way, but it’s also a great reason to think outside of the box when giving out candy. We ALWAYS give pre-wrapped candy and only allow the kids to accept pre-wrapped candy, so Hershey bars and Halloween variety packs from Walmart are our favorites.
When trying to think of a creative and fun way to give the kids candy that’s already wrapped can be challenging, so we made these bat and ghost candy bar holders that are super simple and the kids can easily help!
First, print and cut out the Hershey Bar Halloween Candy Bar Holder templates. We found a package of super cheap construction paper at Walmart, so we used that for the holders. You might be able to print right on to the white paper, but the black will be hard to see. Also, if you cut from the template, your cuts don’t have to be exact or right on the line. That’s a cheat I love!
The bats are the perfect size for two chocolates from the Hershey’s variety pack. Again, Walmart has these HUGE bags of candy so you’ll have enough for a classroom or a ton of Trunk or Treaters. One you tape the small chocolates onto the bat, fold the wings over and place a little bit of glue from a glue stick or tape to keep the bat closed.
The ghost works the same way except these are perfect for full sized Hershey bars! And, let’s face it, we want the full size ones anyway. These are great for older kids or for those parents that look weary from Trunk or Treating and could use a fun pick me up that they don’t have to bribe their kids for. We’ve all been there, right? I remember my parents trading candy with me to get the best candy while I was stuck with the random bags of candy corn and those non-Hershey bars.
The kids can help by folding, applying the glue, and drawing the eyes and mouth on the bats and ghosts.
The Hershey Halloween Variety Bags are available at Walmart and are a HUGE savings just in time for Halloween.
