I discovered this week that there’s more to Disney’s Animal Kingdom than just fun rides and exotic animals. There’s a whole new world that can be explored beyond the tree line and amongst the wild animals native to Africa. This is where you’ll find Disney’s Wild Africa Trek! During our Monkey Kingdom preview week, I did something I never thought I’d do.

This post is part of a #MonkeyKingdomEvent series with Disney. I am receiving transportation and accommodations for this event in exchange for sharing my experience with our readers. All opinions are my own.

If you asked me a month ago, I never would have guessed I’d be tethered to a harness 10 feet above crocodiles on a rickety rope bridge. But there I am; dangling above certain death with a huge smile on my face and a sunburn that was well-earned.

During your 3-hour Wild Africa Trek, you’ll get to roam with wild animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park. Wild Africa Trek gives guests the unmatched opportunity to explore the Safi River Valley and discover animals of nearly every variety in an uninhibited, natural environment.

10 Feet Above Danger

The only thing keeping you from the wild gators ready to feast 10 feet below you is a shaky rope bridge secured to an overhead track with a safety harness. It sounds like a lot, but it feels like you’re exposed to the wild animals that roam the land.

Then you’ll ride in a rugged safari vehicle into the beautiful savanna full of native African creatures—giraffes, flamingos, hippos, elephants and more!

Of course, we couldn’t have made it through the dangerous terrain without our fearless leaders, Joe and Jason. One of the great things about the Wild Africa Trek is that there’s no need to bring a camera; there’s a professional photographer who follows you capturing everything you see and do and even takes requests.

Asante Sana, Jason and Joe! (They also let us know the inside scoop about a hidden Mickey where the Pink Flamingos are!)

And as if your trek weren’t memorable enough, you’ll receive a complimentary souvenir as well! I won’t tell you what it is, but it’s a lifesaver during your trek and it was greatly appreciated for the rest of my Disney visit, as well.

A 3-hour tour and watching a hippo give himself a dung bath can work up an appetite, so on your Wild Africa Trek, you’ll be treated to an authentic African meal. It’s so amazingly delicious! Dried meats, bread, fresh fruit, chicken curry salad, and other foods will vary depending on whether you trek in the morning or afternoon. You’ll enjoy refreshing treats while seated in the shade above the reserve with stunning 360 views.

The Wild Africa Trek is $189 to $249 per person, plus tax based on season. A separate admission to the Animal Kingdom park is required.

It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I’m thrilled I was able to share it with my #MonkeyKingdomEvent fellow bloggers.
